Celebrate in style with this selection of vegan birthday cakes and other treats full of funfetti and flavor! Find simple as well as elaborate ideas for everyone in your family. If you’re new to baking or plant-based eating, try the following one-bowl vegan cake recipe that can easily be modified!

One Bowl Vegan Cake

  • 1 cup brown sugar (220 g)
  • 6 tbsp canola oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (120 g)
  • ⅓ cup cocoa powder (40 g)
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 cup soy milk (240 ml)

  • ¼ cup vegan butter (56 g)
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup cocoa powder (60 g)
  • 2 cups icing sugar (55 g)
  • 1 tbsp soy milk
  • Funfetti

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 °F (180 °C) and line a 9x9 inch cake pan with paper.
  2. Combine sugar, oil, and vanilla in a large mixing bowl. Stir in flour, cocoa powder, and baking powder.
  3. Whisk until smooth while slowly adding the soy milk. Pour into your prepared cake pan and place into the oven.
  4. Bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the cake cool for 10 minutes in the pan, then transfer to a wire rack. Be sure that it is completely cool before adding any frosting!
  5. Beat the vegan butter, vanilla, and cocoa powder with an electric mixer to create the frosting. Add half of the icing sugar and keep beating until creamy.
  6. Slowly add the rest of the icing sugar and soy milk. Continue beating until the frosting becomes smooth and creamy.
  7. Using a cake knife or spatula, spread the frosting over the top of the cooled cake. Decorate with sprinkles or funfetti and serve!

  • You can also decorate the cake with fresh fruit, cookies, or edible flowers.
  • Any buttercream flavor works for this recipe!
