Fish-free Filets

  • 14 oz extra-firm tofu 400 g
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • ½ cup panko bread crumbs
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon dulse flakes
  • 1 tablespoon nutritional yeast
  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Drain the tofu well and press with a clean towel.
  • In a shallow bowl, combine all wet ingredients for the marinade.
  • In another shallow bowl, combine all the dry ingredients and mix them well.
  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Slice the tofu into ½-inch sticks lengthwise. Dunk them one by one in the wet mixture, then dredge in the crumb mixture.
  • Once each tofu stick is well-coated, place it on your prepared baking sheet and continue with the remaining tofu. Make sure the sticks don’t touch each other on the sheet!
  • Bake in the oven for 20-30 minutes, turning once about halfway through.
  • Serve alongside potato wedges or chips and vegan tartar sauce.

Notes

  • Feel free to add some paprika or cayenne pepper to the mixture!
