Ingredients

  • 16 oz extra firm tofu 450 g, pressed for 30 minutes
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch

Teriyaki Dipping Sauce

  • ½ cup soy sauce 120 ml
  • ¼ cup sugar 50 g
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • ½ teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • ¼ cup water 60 ml

Toppings

  • Scallions sliced
  • Sesame

Instructions

  • Cut the tofu into cubes, slices, or triangles.
  • Add soy sauce and cornstarch to a medium-sized bowl. Add the tofu and toss to coat. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Heat a pan over medium-high heat and add the sesame oil. Once it’s hot, add the coated tofu.
  • Cook, occasionally stirring, until it’s crispy on all sides. Remove from heat and set the tofu aside.
  • Place a small pot over medium heat and add all ingredients for the Teriyaki sauce. Whisk to dissolve the cornstarch, then bring to a boil.
  • Whisk frequently until the sauce has thickened. Adjust flavors to preferences, then let the sauce cool for a few minutes.
  • Serve the fried tofu alongside your Teriyaki Dipping Sauce and garnish with scallions and sesame.

Notes

  • Use tamari instead of soy sauce for a gluten-free version.
