Ingredients

  • 2 cups dates pitted (300 g)
  • 2 oz almond meal 60 g
  • 1 oz instant oats 30 g
  • 2 oz cocoa powder 60 g
  • ½ cup almond butter 130 g
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1-2 tbsp water if needed

Coatings

  • Crushed almonds
  • Cocoa powder
  • Melted chocolate optional

Instructions

  • Soak the pitted dates in a small bowl in hot water for 15 minutes if needed, then drain well.
  • Add the dates along with all of the other ingredients except for the water to your food processor. Pulse and blend on low until a crumbly texture forms.
  • Increase the speed and add a splash of water if needed until you are left with a sticky mixture. This might take 1-2 minutes.
  • Check to see if a good texture is achieved — if it’s too sticky to form bliss balls, add more almond meal or oats. If it’s too dry, add some more water.
  • Scoop the mixture with a spoon or use wetted hands to shape little balls. Depending on your preferred size, you may end up with more or fewer chocolate bliss balls.
  • If you want to add some coatings, put cocoa powder or crushed almonds in a small bowl and roll the formed balls until evenly coated.
  • Enjoy immediately or store in the fridge for half an hour before serving.
  • The chocolate bliss balls can be kept in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week or in the freezer for 2-3 months.

Notes

  • You can easily create peanut butter chocolate bliss balls by using peanut butter instead of almond butter!
  • If you don’t have almond meal on hand, simply put 2 ounces of almonds into your blender or food processor and create a medium-fine powder before adding the rest of the ingredients.
  • For more sweetness, simply add 1 tbsp of vegan syrup and reduce any added water.
