Ingredients

Chocolate-Dipped Candied Oranges

  • 1 cup water 240 ml
  • 1 cup sugar 200 g
  • 2 medium oranges
  • 4 ounces dark chocolate 115 g
  • Coarse salt optional
  • Chopped nuts optional

Instructions

  • Wash your oranges thoroughly under running water, then cut them into ¼ inch slices.
  • Add water and sugar to a saucepan and bring to a simmer. Stir until the sugar has dissolved, then add the orange slices.
  • Make sure they are all submerged in water and give them an occasional stir while you let them simmer for about 40 minutes.
  • Once this time has elapsed, transfer the orange slices to a wire rack set on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet for easier cleanup.
  • Let them cool completely either at room temperature or speed up the process by placing them in the fridge for 15 minutes.
  • Once they are cooled, melt the vegan dark chocolate on the stove or in the microwave. Dip half of each orange slice in chocolate, then place it on a parchment paper-lined tray.
  • Sprinkle with coarse salt and chopped nuts if wanted for a pretty finish and repeat until all orange slices have been dipped and decorated.
  • Place the tray in the fridge for about an hour, until the chocolate is hardened.
  • To gift them, wrap each slice individually in parchment paper and store them in the fridge for as long as possible before handing them over!

Notes

  • You can add cloves or other cozy spices to the water and sugar mixture for more flavor.
  • We recommend using only a little bit of coarse salt for decoration. You can also leave it out entirely.
  • Candied blood oranges also look and taste fantastic!
  • Be sure not to boil the oranges, let them simmer on low.
  • Keep this recipe added sugar-free by using granulated erythritol instead of sugar!
